It's RSV. And while that usually adds up to about as much trouble as a cold in most babies, our Max is special. The virus has caused bronchiolitis, an inflamation of his small airways. And that means much coughing, wheezing, and trouble breathing. The doctor was very close to admitting him to the hospital, but it turns out he responds very well to nebulizer treatments that are usually reserved for asthmatics. One treatment brought his oxygen saturation level up to 99%. So I'm doing nebulizer treatments for him at home (which he hates), plus oral steroids, on top of the saline drops and Zantac he's already been saddled with.
I'll take him back to the doc on Monday (or sooner if his improvements don't stick). If his oxygen saturation is down again, they'll put him in the hospital for supplemental oxygen treatments.
Having a baby makes you worry like you've never worried before. I don't know how I'm going to go to sleep tonight. I think I'm just going to pull up a chair beside his crib and listen to him all night.

Oh no! I always worry about RSV in winter babies. I hope he's better soon.
I feel so bad for you and Max! I worry about everything also...I'm just glad it doesn't get too cold in CA!
I've been away from my computer and am just now reading this post. I hope Max (and you two!) is doing much better!! I know he's in good hands -- you guys are the best parents.
And, I hate to break it to you, but you will never stop worrying about Max - even when he's 50 years old. That's what happens when you become a parent.
Call us if you need anything!!
Sorry to hear Max is sick! Riley had RSV too as a baby, I know it makes your worry alot. I'm sure he'll get better soon with all your mommy and daddy care.
